Outstanding Philanthropist, Nominated by Opportunity Village

Betty Engelstad and her daughter, Kris Engelstad McGarry have become two of Nevada’s most generous and forward-thinking citizens. Through their thoughtful approach to philanthropy, organizations like the College of Southern Nevada, the Nevada Cancer Institute, Three-Square and Opportunity Village have been given the chance to expand much-needed programs and services in our community. The Engelstad Family Foundation has been important to the vision and mission of Opportunity Village.

Betty and Kris have inspired others to become more closely connected to the not-for-profit organizations they care about. They continue to bring a strong sense of legitimacy and recognition to some of Las Vegas’ most important institutions/organizations. These two women embody the spirit of giving and demonstrate that when done with tremendous care and understanding, generosity can change a whole community.
