Lifetime Achievement, Nominated by Las Vegas Philharmonic

William Freyd has been in fundraising for 45 years, entering the profession in 1965 as a member of the major gifts/campaign staff of his alma mater, Georgetown University. In 1974, he launched a fundraising consulting company, IDC. In 1977, Bill developed a solicitation process for the” Campaign for Yale” to solicit 60,000 alumni and parents. This resulted in the creation of the now famous “Phone/Mail” program which raised $15 million for Yale at a cost-per-dollar of 5 cents. Phone/Mail went on to revolutionize both major and small gift fundraising in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand. Bill has served impressive institutions such as Oxford University, Cambridge University, The New York Public Library, The New York City Ballet, The Los Angeles Philharmonic, and all five of the United States Service Academies.

Serving a two-year term as President of the Las Vegas Philharmonic from 2006-2007, Bill has volunteered his talent and leadership to this organization. He chaired the search for a new Music Director for the Philharmonic in 2007, resulting in the hiring of the outstanding and popular, Maestro David Itkin.

Listed in the noted Marquis Who’s Who publications, Bill is often called on concerning fundraising ethics and standards of ethical practice for the profession. He is especially proud of being one of six people in the country to receive the SAGE Award from American Association of Fundraising Professionals (now The Giving Institute).
