Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation of Nevada is the first and oldest nonprofit organization in Nevada serving children, from birth to 21 years of age, and families coping with childhood cancer. Its mission is to provide emotional support, quality of life programs, and financial assistance to these families with the goal of allowing them to focus on the journey, and most importantly, loving their child.

Position Summary
We are looking for a Development Manager who will play a pivotal role in advancing the organization’s mission. This position is instrumental in developing and implementing effective fundraising strategies to secure financial support from diverse funding sources, including individuals, corporations, foundations, and government entities. This role collaborates closely with the development team and other staff members to align fundraising efforts with organizational goals.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Play a lead role in the execution of the organization’s annual fundraising plan.
- Research and identify potential donors, including major gifts and corporate sponsors.
- Manage and nurture relationships with potential financial donors, including corporations, foundations, and individuals, to cultivate their interest and support.
- Explore opportunities to expand and enrich the donor base.
- Foster and strengthen relationship connections with community, corporate, and foundation partners to strengthen relationships.
- Measure and evaluate the success of prospecting and stewarding efforts.
- Plan, organize, and execute fundraising and donor cultivation events.
- Manage the creation and implementation of fundraising appeals.
- Research and identify potential grant opportunities and manage grant tracking and required reporting.
- Oversee the donor management system and ensure accurate and up-to-date donor records.
- Maintain segmented email distribution lists.
- Aid in creating and implementing marketing strategies including e-mail, direct mail, digital, and social media campaigns.
- Prepare development and marketing reports as requested.
- Assist with the creation of marketing materials as needed.
- Act as the organization’s ambassador by attending community events, networking functions, and fundraising forums.
- Engage with the public at tabling events effectively promoting and raising awareness about Candlelighters’ missions.
- Conduct tours of office and programs when needed.
- Stay updated on industry trends and best practices.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

- Ability to manage multiple projects independently.
- Experience in managing and leading a team, including training and mentoring staff.
- Proficient in computer software including but not limited to word processing, email, spreadsheets, and databases.
- Experience with CRM software Boomerang a plus. Experience with design programs like Canva or Adobe a plus.
- Enthusiasm for working in a small organization where flexibility, teamwork, and good humor are absolute necessities.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in fields such as nonprofit management, business administration, marketing, communications, public relations, or a related field is required.
- At least 5 years of fundraising or sales experience, with at least 3 spent in a leadership or managerial capacity. Proven expertise in team management, encompassing training and mentoring of staff.
- Familiarity with the nonprofit sector, including trends, best practices, and legal and ethical considerations related to fundraising and donor relations.
- Experience in planning, organizing, and executing fundraising events and donor cultivation activities.
- Knowledge of local corporate and foundation giving trends and success in securing gifts $5,000-$10,000.
Travel
- The position may require occasional local travel.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations
- Position requires a current, valid Driver’s License, proof of authorization to work in the U.S., a background check and fingerprinting. (Proof of auto liability insurance is required if driving a personal vehicle for Candlelighters’ business.)

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time. The employee must also be mobile, able to stand for long periods of time and lift up to 15 lbs.
