Position Summary

Eye Care 4 Kids is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization, established for the exclusive purpose of promoting good vision and literacy. Founded in 2001 by board-certified pediatric optician Joseph G. Carbone, with his wife Jan and Dee W. Hadley, Eye Care 4 Kids provides vision screening, eye exams and eyeglasses for youth whose parents or guardians do not have the resources to pay. The mission of Eye Care 4 Kids Nevada is to provide professional eyecare to low-income, visually impaired children and families in the multi-cultural communities of Southern Nevada. We recognize the inherent link between vision and education and are dedicated to giving all students the best chance at academic, social and emotional success.

The Manager of Mobile Services is a fulltime, two-fold position: assuming daily responsibility for the Eye Care 4 Kids Nevada Mobile Vision Clinic (39-foot long recreational vehicle) as well as performing the duties of an Optical Technician. The Mobile Services Manager is responsible for driving and maintaining the Mobile Vision Clinic (MVC) on a daily basis, ensuring the safety of the vehicle and serving as an Optical Technician while at a scheduled location. This position assists in the scheduling and organizing of mobile vision events. The position also entails performing initial vision screenings to prepare patients for eye exams.

Job Responsibilities:

Driving and Maintenance of MVC

  • From designated parking location, driving the MVC to a pre-determined location each morning (schools, health events) to provide professional vision services
  • Responsible for light maintenance of the MVC and required to verify that all vehicle systems are operational, which may include maintaining vehicle records/logs, performing basic vehicle maintenance (i.e. cleaning, inflating tires, checking fluid levels, etc.)
  • Perform general cleaning, organization and maintenance of equipment/working area
  • Anticipate needed mechanical service so appointments are arranged and convenient to schedule
  • Immediately report any operating problems, malfunctions or incidents to the supervisor
  • Monitor stock and supplies

Optical Duties

  • Adapt to performing repetitive, short-cycle tasks according to set procedures
  • Utilize lensometers or lens analyzers to determine current lens prescriptions for clients
  • Use measuring devices to take client measurements including bridge and eye sizes, papillary distance, temple length, optical eye centers for sizes for eyeglasses
  • Coordinate frames and eye measurements to the optical prescription
  • Verify finished lens spectacles match the optical prescription
  • Advise clients on the correct procedures for wearing eyeglasses and caring for the lenses and frames
  • Arrange and maintain optical merchandise displays
  • Awareness of any likelihood of safety hazards in MVC

Customer & Staff Relations

  • Provide a high level of customer service to patients and families
  • Establish positive relationships with staff
  • Develop and maintain communication and solid working relationships with school programmers
  • Create and maintain MVC calendar (school and event visits)
  • Maintain solid working relationship with CCSD Bus Management
  • Attend weekend events as scheduled
  • Attend staff meetings as able


  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 10 years professional work experience
  • Provide proof of current NV driver license, vehicle registration and insurance
  • Excellent driving record
  • Superb communication skills/ability to read, speak and understand English fluently
  • Ability to work with diverse populations

Physical Demands

  • Required to operate a large recreational size motor vehicle daily

  • Consistently required to walk and move about in a confined space
  • Constantly required to communicate with patients
  • Abilities required by this job include hearing, seeing, listening, talking, reading
  • Specific vision abilities required for this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception
