Presented by Abbie J. von Schlegell, CFRE, FAFP

For centuries, women have focused their efforts and their fortunes on creating new institutions and bringing about significant social change. The roles of volunteer and giver are the traditional ones for women, yet few have thought of women as philanthropists. Until recently, philanthropy has remained somewhat uncharted territory for many women, but this has begun to change.

Over the last twenty-five years, women’s participation as donors, fundraisers, nonprofit leaders and change agents has expanded exponentially. As women have assumed greater leadership roles in business and finance, and as decision makers in nonprofit and government agencies, they are looking to impact philanthropy in innovative and creative ways.
